Work ↔ Personal, detail one way only
Start with this recipeKeep work and personal calendars in step both ways: work shows Busy, your personal calendar keeps the full details. Needs Pro for the per-calendar settings.
Last updated
Work events arrive in your personal calendar in full detail; personal events appear on your work calendar as Busy.
Works on: Pro.
When this is for you
You want one place that shows everything — but your work calendar must never show what your personal events are.
Before you turn it on
- Settings for one calendar at a time are a Pro feature; on Free or Plus both directions share one setting.
- Guests are never copied in either direction — a copied guest list would send real invitations.
How it works
Both calendars send and receive. What differs is what each side shows: your work calendar gets Busy blocks, and your personal calendar gets the real titles and details. Check that your organization allows work-calendar details in a personal account before you start.
What you'll pick
- Your work calendar (1 calendar; sends and receives): Receives Busy blocks. Sends full detail.
- Your personal calendar (1 calendar; sends and receives): Receives full detail. Sends Busy blocks.
Setting it up
- Pick your work calendar and your personal calendar. Both send and receive.
- Leave the shared title (under "All calendars") on "Busy". This is what your work calendar will show.
- Under "Settings for", pick your personal calendar. Set its title to "Original" and its Description and Location to "Copy". This step needs the Pro plan.
- Keep Guests on "Leave out". Check the "Free or busy" setting on its own, because it does not follow the title.
- Check it worked: add one test event on each calendar. The work copy should show Busy with no details. The personal copy should show the title and details you chose.
Variations
You can add these to this sync at any time, without starting over.
Sync everything except all-day events
Add an "All-day events" exclude rule and holidays, birthdays and travel banners stay out of the calendar you sync into. It also catches birthdays from a subscribed calendar, which "Special dates from contacts" cannot — those arrive as ordinary events, so only the all-day rule sees them.
Only invitations you've accepted
Set "Invitations" to "Only yes" and meeting requests you haven't answered stay out of the calendar you sync into until you accept them.
Set this up
Start with this recipe opens the sync screen with this recipe's direction and common settings already filled in. You pick the calendars, and you can change any setting before anything syncs.
The personal-calendar settings are not filled in. On Pro, pick the personal calendar under "Settings for" and add them before starting the sync, then test both directions.

Show Busy to clients, full details to you
Work shows Busy, personal keeps every detail. A rule per calendar needs Pro; a rule by source calendar needs Plus.
Hide details only for some events
Use a rule to show Busy or Private for the events you pick, such as big meetings or one source calendar, and leave every other copy as it is, on Plus.
Different settings per destination calendar
Set a shared default for a sync, then override it for one destination calendar. What you can vary, what you can't, and which way round it works.
iCloud ↔ Google, both directions
Add an event on your iPhone or your laptop and it shows up on the other, with its real title and location. Works on the Free plan with two calendars.
Family calendar → your own
Family events show up on the calendar you actually open, in full detail. One-way, so nothing of yours goes back to the family calendar. Works on Free.
