Put the video-meeting link in the location
Start with this recipeOnline meetings copy with their join link as the location, so you can join in one tap. Events without a link keep their location. Needs Plus.
Last updated
Online meetings show their join link as the location of the copy. Events without a link keep their normal location.
Works on: Plus.
When this is for you
You open your calendar on your phone and want to join in one tap, but the link sits in the conference details of the invitation.
Before you turn it on
- The link comes from Google's video-meeting data or an Outlook meeting's join link. It is blank for CalDAV, iCloud and iCal feed events, which keep their normal location.
- A link someone pasted into the description or location is not the meeting link.
- A location holds at most 255 characters.
How it works
SYNCDATE copies each event to the calendar you check. A rule on the Location row looks for a meeting link: when the event has one, the copy's location is that link, and when it has none, the copy keeps the original location.
What you'll pick
- The calendar with the invitations (1 calendar; copies come from here): Nothing is written to it.
- The calendar you check (1 calendar; copies land here): Where the copies appear.
Setting it up
- Pick the calendar with the invitations as the source. Nothing is written to it.
- Pick the calendar you check. The copies appear here.
- Under "What copies look like", open the "Location" row. It is already set to "Custom" with one rule: if "Meeting link" is not empty, use the "Meeting link" variable. "Otherwise" is the "Location" variable.
- Check it worked: open the copy of an online meeting. Its location should be the join link. An event with no video meeting should show its usual location.
Variations
You can add these to this sync at any time, without starting over.
Sync everything except all-day events
Add an "All-day events" exclude rule and holidays, birthdays and travel banners stay out of the calendar you sync into. It also catches birthdays from a subscribed calendar, which "Special dates from contacts" cannot — those arrive as ordinary events, so only the all-day rule sees them.
Only invitations you've accepted
Set "Invitations" to "Only yes" and meeting requests you haven't answered stay out of the calendar you sync into until you accept them.
Set this up
Start with this recipe opens the sync screen with this recipe's direction and common settings already filled in. You pick the calendars, and you can change any setting before anything syncs.
The rule is already written. Open the row it names under "What copies look like" to read it or change it before you start the sync.
