Events from one of your source calendars show as Busy and Private. Events from the other source calendars keep their titles.
Works on: Plus.
When this is for you
You copy several calendars into one, and one of them is personal.
Before you turn it on
- The rules pick a calendar from the sync's own source calendars, so add them after you have chosen the calendars.
- Until you add the rules, every copy shows as Busy.
How it works
SYNCDATE copies the events of two to four calendars into one. Until you add the rules, every copy shows as Busy. Two rules, one on the Privacy row and one on the Title row, which you add, look at which source calendar an event came from. The rules are not filled in for you, because they need you to pick your own calendar.
What you'll pick
- The calendars to copy from (2–4 calendars; copies come from here): Nothing is written to them.
- The calendar others can see (1 calendar; copies land here): Where the copies appear.
Setting it up
- Pick the calendars to copy from, including the personal one, and the calendar others can see. Nothing is written to the source calendars.
- You add this rule. Under "What copies look like", set the "Privacy" row to "Custom" and press "If". For the check, pick "Source calendar", then "is", and pick your personal calendar. Set the result to "Private". Set "Otherwise" to "Same as original".
- You add this rule. Set the "Title" row to "Custom" and press "If". Use the same check: "Source calendar" is your personal calendar. Set the result to the text "Busy". Set "Otherwise" to the "Title" variable.
- Check it worked: add a test event to your personal calendar and one to another source calendar. The first copy should read Busy and be Private. The second should keep its title.
Variations
You can add these to this sync at any time, without starting over.
Sync everything except all-day events
Add an "All-day events" exclude rule and holidays, birthdays and travel banners stay out of the calendar you sync into. It also catches birthdays from a subscribed calendar, which "Special dates from contacts" cannot — those arrive as ordinary events, so only the all-day rule sees them.
Only invitations you've accepted
Set "Invitations" to "Only yes" and meeting requests you haven't answered stay out of the calendar you sync into until you accept them.
Set this up
Start with this recipe opens the sync screen with this recipe's direction and common settings already filled in. You pick the calendars, and you can change any setting before anything syncs.
The rule is not filled in, because it depends on your own domain or calendar. Add it as described in the setup steps before you start the sync, then test it.
