Family calendar → your own
Start with this recipeFamily events show up on the calendar you actually open, in full detail. One-way, so nothing of yours goes back to the family calendar. Works on Free.

Everything on the shared family calendar shows up on the calendar you actually check, in full.
Works on: Free.
When this is for you
The family calendar exists, but you never open it, so you miss things.
Before you turn it on
- One direction only: adding an event to your own calendar does not put it on the family calendar.
- If you need it both ways, use a two-way recipe instead — but then everything you add is visible to the family.
How it works
The shared calendar can be one you own or one somebody shared with you. This recipe only reads from it, so read access is enough. When a family member moves something, your copy moves with it, and when they delete it your copy goes. Anything you add to your own calendar stays there and never reaches the family calendar.
What you'll pick
- The shared family calendar (1 calendar; copies come from here): The one everyone adds to. Nothing is written back to it.
- The calendar you actually check (1 calendar; copies land here): Family events land here.
Setting it up
- Pick the shared family calendar as the source. Nothing is written back to it.
- Pick the calendar you actually check.
- Choose "Original" for the title, so an event still says what it is.
- Check it worked: add one test event to the family calendar. It should appear on your calendar with its details and time. An event you add to your own calendar should not appear on the family one.
Variations
You can add these to this sync at any time, without starting over.
Sync everything except all-day events
Add an "All-day events" exclude rule and holidays, birthdays and travel banners stay out of the calendar you sync into. It also catches birthdays from a subscribed calendar, which "Special dates from contacts" cannot — those arrive as ordinary events, so only the all-day rule sees them.
Only invitations you've accepted
Set "Invitations" to "Only yes" and meeting requests you haven't answered stay out of the calendar you sync into until you accept them.
Set this up
Start with this recipe opens the sync screen with this recipe's direction and common settings already filled in. You pick the calendars, and you can change any setting before anything syncs.
