What each sync status means
Every status a sync can show on your dashboard, from Up to date to Sync problem, what it means and what to do about it.
Last updated
Each sync shows one status label. Find the label you see below. Most of them need nothing from you. The ones that do say so in the first line.
A status that starts with "Paused" has its own page: why my sync is paused. "Sync on hold" is explained below, and the reason behind it is on why my sync is on hold.
Up to date
The latest run finished and nothing is waiting to be copied. Nothing to do.
Syncing
A run is going right now. It clears by itself when the run ends. Nothing to do.
Awaiting initial sync
The sync is new and the first copy hasn't started or hasn't finished. Events appear on the other calendar as the first copy completes. If it stays this way for a long time, SYNCDATE flags it on your Home page as "First copy needs attention". See First copy needs attention.
Awaiting first sync
The first copy is done but no full run has completed yet. It changes to "Up to date" after the next run. Nothing to do.
Working with limits
Some events can't be saved in the other calendar because it doesn't keep them, so they aren't copied. Everything else is syncing normally.
What to do: nothing is broken. If you want those events copied, check what the other calendar supports. For repeating events, see what SYNCDATE can't do.
Sync problem
The latest run ended with an error. SYNCDATE retries on its own, and many problems clear without you.
What to do:
- Open the sync and read the line under the status. It says which account or calendar is affected.
- If it names an account, reconnect it. See account and connection messages.
- If the status is still there after a few more runs, contact support at support@syncdate.app and give the name of the sync.
Sync on hold
SYNCDATE stopped part of the work on purpose and is waiting for something. The sync is not deleted and your calendars are not changed. This label is the general one. When SYNCDATE knows the reason, the sync shows a more specific headline. See why my sync is on hold.
Status unavailable
SYNCDATE can't read enough evidence to tell you how this sync is doing. It shows no status rather than a wrong one. Try again later. If it stays after a few runs, contact support.
Account access lost
SYNCDATE lost access to one of the accounts this sync uses. The sync shows the line "SYNCDATE lost access to your account. Reconnect it to keep this sync running", with the account named, and a Reconnect account button.
What to do: press Reconnect account and sign in again. Nothing already synced is deleted. See Re-authorization needed.
Deleting
You deleted the sync and SYNCDATE is removing the copies it made. Your original events are not touched. It disappears when cleanup finishes.
Deletion failed
Cleanup ran out of retries before every copy was removed. Press Delete on the sync again to retry. If it fails again, contact support and say which sync.
Delete paused — account needs reconnecting
SYNCDATE needs access to the account again to remove the copies it made. This sync is no longer copying events, and your original events aren't affected.
What to do: either reconnect the account and the delete carries on by itself, or choose Keep the copies and finish to end the delete now and leave the copies where they are.
Delete stopped — some copies couldn't be removed
SYNCDATE removed the copies it could, but couldn't remove the rest and has stopped trying. This sync is no longer copying events, and your original events aren't affected.
What to do: choose to keep the remaining copies and finish deleting the sync, or contact support. Remove any leftover copies by hand if you want them gone.
The dot in the sidebar
The coloured dot next to Syncs sums up all your syncs at once.
| Colour and label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Red: "N syncs failed" | At least one sync has a problem SYNCDATE can't clear alone, or needs support. Open the list to see which. |
| Amber: "N syncs need attention" | At least one sync is paused for a reason you can fix, or for a reason SYNCDATE doesn't recognise. |
| Amber: "N syncs working with limits" | Some events can't be kept by the other calendar. See Working with limits. |
| Blue: "N syncs syncing" | A sync is running, or hasn't had its first run yet. |
| Green: "N syncs healthy" | Every sync is fine. |
| Grey: "N syncs paused" | The only thing wrong is syncs you or the product paused. |
