Connect an AI assistant
What to have ready, what your assistant can reach, and how to fix or remove a connection.
Last updated
Platform MCP: Included on every plan. Manage syncs, connected accounts, preferences and support through your AI assistant, with the same plan limits and permissions as the dashboard.
Calendar Hub MCP: Included on Plus, Pro and Team. Read events, find free time, and create, change or delete events directly in your connected calendars. No sync is required; feeds remain read-only.
Team admins can also invite members, resend or revoke invitations, promote or remove members, and manage Team settings and sync policies. Admin access does not reveal members' events.
Billing changes and final account-deletion confirmation finish in the browser. MCP access is subject to the connection's granted permissions and a daily request limit.
The steps for each assistant live in the app. Both kinds of access use the same connection.
Before you start
- A SYNCDATE account on any plan for Platform MCP. Plus, Pro or Team for Calendar Hub MCP.
- Connect the accounts you want to use. Platform MCP can help connect them within your plan limits.
- No sync needed for Calendar Hub MCP. It works on your connected calendars directly.
- For iCloud or another CalDAV account, an app password. How to make one.
Connect it
Go to Settings → AI agents, pick your assistant under Connect and follow the steps shown. If it asks for the server address, it is https://syncdate.app/api/mcp.
Want the assistant to set itself up? Copy the setup prompt from the MCP page.
What it can reach
You sign in to SYNCDATE in your browser and click Approve. The approval screen lists what the assistant asked for. You accept or cancel the whole request. You can't pick permissions one by one.
There are five kinds of access:
- Read calendars (Calendar Hub MCP): browse calendars, read events and find free time. Platform MCP can list connected accounts and calendars available for configuring syncs on every plan.
- Create and change calendar events (Calendar Hub MCP): also delete them on writable calendars.
- Read syncs: list syncs and their runs, check whether a sync is healthy.
- Manage syncs: create, change, pause, resume and delete them.
- Manage accounts (Platform MCP): connect, rename, reconnect and disconnect eligible accounts, change email and calendar visibility preferences, manage assistant connections and support requests. Team admins can also manage members, invitations and Team policies.
For the calendars it can read, the assistant receives event details such as titles, times, places, guests and notes; SYNCDATE does not mask them as Busy copies. Accounts you have not connected stay out of reach.
The usual setup requests read and write access. Telling the assistant to read only does not restrict its granted access. A client configured to request only read permissions has narrower access, but you cannot narrow the request on the approval screen. Check what your client requests before relying on a read-only connection.
Check it works
On every plan, ask "List my connected accounts and check my sync health. Read only; do not change anything." With Calendar Hub MCP, also ask "What is on my calendar tomorrow?" More first prompts.
Read an iCloud calendar with Calendar Hub MCP, without creating a sync
On Plus, Pro or Team, use your existing SYNCDATE login and connect iCloud under Settings → Accounts with an Apple app-specific password. That password connects the calendar; it is not a SYNCDATE login. Apple explains how to generate one. Keep your main password and calendar credentials out of assistant prompts.
After connecting your assistant, ask it to list your accounts and calendars, identify the intended iCloud calendar and read a short date range. For example: "Show tomorrow's events from my Home calendar in iCloud with the time zone. Read only; do not change events, accounts or syncs." Compare the dates and times with Apple Calendar before relying on the result.
A sync to Google or Outlook is not required to read an already connected iCloud calendar. Calendar connection and SYNCDATE sign-in are separate steps; these instructions start from an existing SYNCDATE login, rather than promising a different sign-in method. If the calendar is missing, check the iCloud connection first. Do not create a sync as a workaround for missing account access.
If it stops working
- Remove SYNCDATE in your assistant.
- Under Connected in Settings → AI agents, click Revoke on the old connection.
- Add it again from Connect.
Moving to Free keeps Platform MCP access. Calendar Hub permissions are removed when the connection refreshes its token; an existing token may keep them until it expires, within an hour. After upgrading, those permissions return on token refresh if the original approval requested them. Otherwise, reconnect the assistant and approve a request that includes calendar access. If a calendar is missing, check the account connection.
Use SYNCDATE from another app or script
An external app or script can use the remote MCP server after implementing the MCP connection and OAuth browser sign-in. Access belongs to the authorizing SYNCDATE user and follows the same scopes, plan limits and Team admin checks.
SYNCDATE does not currently offer a public REST API, API keys or a separate REST user-provisioning API. Its REST endpoints serve the signed-in browser UI. Team admins can invite and manage members through Platform MCP; each invitee must accept. Billing changes and final account deletion still require the user's browser.
Disconnect
Click Revoke next to the connection under Connected in Settings → AI agents. That ends its access.
